Loving can be deadly

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in New York overnight; “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.  “In Iran we do not have this phenomenon.  I don’t know who has told you that we have it.”

No, I suppose not.  I guess these sixteen year old boys, executed for homosexual acts must have strung themselves up for fun.

Endless pain and suffering.

Gulbar was set alight by her husband.

Over the years I have become somewhat inured to television reports of tragedy.  However, a Channel 4 report broadcast on the ABC’s Four Corners programme last night had me hiding under the doona.  It reported on the status of women in Afghanistan.

The woman pictured above is Gulbar.  She was set alight by her husband.  Below is a photograph of Pari Gul.  She self-immolated in July 2007.  Burning women are common in Afghanistan.

Pari Gul, aged 23 self-immolated in Afghanistan in July 2007.

Figures suggest that at least 250 Afghan women have suicided by self burning in the past six months.  The real figure is higher as only the women taken to hospital have been counted.  The rest are quietly buried by the men the women were trying to escape from.

Even hospital admission offers no release from their pain as there is not enough morphine to alleviate their suffering.  I find this extraordinary; in a country that produces most of the world’s heroin, these women are left to fester and die.

What must their lives be like for them to do this?

An Afghan woman in the Channel 4 doco said that they did it to highlight their suffering.

What it does highlight is the moral culpability of men in allowing such brutality.

I am a porn star.

OK, I am not actually a porn star.  That is a fantasy which will remain unfulfilled.

However, I can fuck like one and for quite some time now I have been attempting to improve my love life.  As there ain’t no use crying over spilt lost-love, I decided that it was time to move on.  And I think I have, because I met this spunky man last weekend who I rather like and who seems to like me.

We have planned a weekened of fucking and other pleasures.

I’ll let readers know how I go, and if possible post pictures.  Grrrr!

I’m sure CBS would Rather he didn’t.

What’s the frequency?

One of my favourite television journalists is former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather.  Mr Rather, you may remember, was forced to resign two years ago by network chiefs after 60 Minutes broadcast a story about George Bush Jr., that was later found to have use falsified documents.

Mr Rather is now suing his former employer for $USD 70 million, citing breach of contract.  There must be quite a bit of that going on as here in Australia the sublime Mary Kostakidis is suing SBS for breach of contract as well.

In his filed claim, Rather states that CBS attempted to tarnish his reputation to pacify an aggrieved White House.

All in all, it was an inglorious exit for one of America’s best, and most hated journalists.    Hated, because Dan Rather appears to be a card carrying liberal, and the Christian right in the US has problems with ‘difference’.  There are even websites exposing his liberal bias.

But I like Dan.  I like him because he is on the left, and has a deft turn of phrase, such as these examples from election nights gone by;

“The election is closer than Lassie and Timmy,”

“Keep in mind they are teetotally meetmortally convinced they have Ohio won.”

But who here in Australia is worth liking on commercial televison?  Nobody.

It is worth noting that here in Australia on election night, we will have Mel and Kochie  presenting Seven’s converage.  It is also worth nothing that 6.30 is when the US network news bulletins are screened, while here in Australia we have Tracey Grimashaw and Anna Cretin presenting their nightly bucket of shit.

Australian journalists have let themselves down.  Australian journalists have let the country down.  Australian journalists are, mostly, used-car salesman selling us lemons.  Thank God for The 7.30 Report and Lateline.

You know what?  I am as mad as hell, and I am glad I don’t wantch anymore.

Crime and Punishment

Recently I was the victime of a most appalling crime.  Some fucker had spat chewing gum onto the street and I stood on it, covering my very new and very shiney Hush Puppies in rancid gum.  With this in mind I now propose a new law that would put Singapore’s ban on chewing your cud, err gum, to shame.

I propose that people who spit out gum whould be removed from society and force fed Juicy Fruit until they shit Wrigley’s pellets or die of a bowel obstruction.

Pundits and the polls

The latest News Poll released today has shown the government bouncing back, with the Coalition’s two-party preferred vote edging up to 45 per cent.  I hope the Tories don’t get too excited because Labor is still ten points ahead.  Speaking on LateLine last night, ABC Election Analyst Antony Green said the previous poll, which showed the government trailing by 18 points, was most likely a ’statistical abberation’ and that Labor had returned to the level of the previous six polls which showed them ahead by ten points.

This means the Government will continue be thumped in the polls and at the poll that counts.

But honestly, all this poll punditry is pure madness.  Remember when governments didn’t rely on polls to make decisions.  No, me neither.

Now if Prime Minister Kanute would just call the election.

It will pass.

Time for a nuclear waste dump in Australia.

Australia is going to sell uranium to both India and Russia.  This is rather objectionable as Russia is again trying to assert its military authority.  India also cannot guarantee where Australian uranium will end up.

Mmmmm.

So with these deals all but inked, it is now time to face the reality that if Australia is going to sell it, we must then asssume responsibility for its safe disposal.  This is why we should, as a matter of urgency, start construction of a nuclear waste dump.

I would suggest the seat of Bennelong is perfect for this poisonous material.

Or we could leave it in the ground, forgoing short term profit for the sake of a healthier planet.

Wax dummies in Sydney for the APEC conference.

Madam Tussauds has shipped some wax dummies to Sydney for the APEC conference.

I do wish they could have made Janette a bit more life like though.

What’s that Skip? Brownshirts?

Safety in numbers.

Thank God for border security, ASIS, ASIO and the Defence Signals Directorate.

Where would we be without them?  Fucked, I think.  Yes, fucked.

Without all this law and order palaver, the APEC conference would have been but a flicker in the eye of little John, George Jnr would be safely ensconsed in Washington, and the good people of Sydney would be able to walk the streets of their city without fear or favour.

So today, impressed as I am with all this increased security and stuff; I am proposing a permanently armed paramilitary force to patrol the streets of our major cities and towns.  This will ensure that once Presidents Wu, Bush and Putin fly home to their heavily fortified residences, Australia will be as safe as a safe thing locked in a bank vault.

I understand there might be some criticism, and that we might struggle to get around our cities, but by God we will be safe.

“What’s that Skip?”?

“Brownshirts?”

“No Skip, it is just professionslly trained Howard Youth walking the streets to make us feel safe.”
